SLAsc is accepting nominations

Aloha mai Kākou!

Fall 2017 is creeping up to a close which means it is time for nominations and elections. The Special Libraries Association Student Chapter is now accepting nominations for Executive Board members to serve through the Spring 2018 Semester. Please consider joining the SLAsc team by nominating yourself, or nominate one or more of your fellow LIS classmates who you think would enjoy the opportunity to serve.

  • Nominees must be an SLAsc member who paid or will pay a one-time fee of $5.

o   Current members, please update your information here.

o   New members, please enroll here.

  • Nominees must be current LIS students.
  • You may nominate more than one person, including yourself, for multiple positions. But please submit separate forms.

o   If you will be nominating yourself please include a short bio on the nomination form, unless you want to remain anonymous.

  • Nominations are anonymous.

Here are the positions and general descriptions open for nominations:

President:

  • Heads all meetings and events
  • Oversees email account
  • Acts as the main contact for the organization
  • Participates in the planning of chapter events (tours, brown bag talks, etc.)
  • Attends faculty meetings once a month
  • Participates in fundraising activities, from the planning stages to the end

Vice-President:

  •  Assists the president
  •  Stands in as head when president is unavailable
  • Participates in the planning of events
  • Participates in fundraising activities

Secretary:

  • Takes minutes at board meetings and sends them out to board members via email
  • Keeps the membership list up to date
  • Files the bi-annual SLA student group report
  • Participates in fundraising activities
  • Also participates in the planning of all activities

Treasurer:

  • Keeps track of the SLAsc account
  • Keeps track of one time club fees
  • Handles reimbursements as needed
  • Participates in fundraising activities
  • Also participates in the planning of all activities

Webmaster:

  • Update website regularly and make changes as needed

o   Add notifications for tours and general information as requested by other board members
o   Add widgets or features to the site which will help make the site more helpful to others
o   Create digital and print flyers for special events

o   Update board member information on the site

  • Take pictures at SLAsc events and post to the website (other board members can assist)
  • Participates in fundraising activities
  • Also participates in the planning of all activities

Although our board has five distinct roles, we all work together as a team. So don’t hold out on us! Nominate! Nominate! Nominate!

Nominations will close on Friday, November 10th, at 12 pm. Candidates will then be notified via email and have the opportunity to accept or decline the nomination.  Elections will commence shortly thereafter.
